Toffee Apples
PREP TIME 10 minutes COOK TIME 10 minutes MAKES 8

  • 8 Granny Smith apples
  • 400g of golden caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons of golden syrup

Preparation method

  1. Start by placing the apples into a large bowl before covering with boiling water. Dry the apples before removing the apple stalks with a quick twist.
  2. Taking a wooden skewer, push the skewer through one end of the apple.
  3. Using a baking parchment, place the skewered apples on top of the baking paper.
  4. In a saucepan over a medium heat, place the sugar and 100ml of water and leave to cook for 5 minutes or until the sugar begins to dissolve. Once the sugar has dissolved, stir in the vinegar and the golden syrup.
  5. With the use of a thermometer, boil the mixture to 150°C until it has begun to thicken. A superb way to test the toffee is to pour a little into a bowl of cold water. If the toffee hardens straight away, you will know that it is cooked.
  6. Quickly with the cooked toffee, cover dip and twist each of the apples into the hot toffee until they are all completely covered. Allow the toffee to cool before eating.
