Chocolate Nutella Thumbprint Biscuits

The options of what you can create with Nutella is endless. For those bakers wanting an easy challenge to start with, why not give this Nutella thumbprint biscuits made with shortbread a go for an extra sweet delight.

Nutella Thumbprint Shortbread

  • 440g of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 170g of sugar
  • 170g of brown sugar
  • 170g of peanut butter
  • 170g of unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 340g of Nutella

Preparation method

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 220°C. With a baking tray, line it with baking paper and place to the side.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add together the flour, salt and baking soda and whisk.
  3. In another large mixing bowl, mix together the sugar, brown sugar, butter and peanut butter and beat until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  4. Once the texture has become light and fluffy, add the egg and the vanilla and continue beating. When the texture has regained its fluffiness, add the flour mixture and beat again.
  5. With the dough, take a large spoonful and roll into a 1-Inch ball, continue with the rest of the dough.
  6. Place each ball dough onto the baking tray, keeping them 2 inches apart.
  7. Place into the oven to bake for around 10 minutes before removing and immediately pressing the back of a spoon into the centre of the biscuit to create a thumbprint effect.
  8. Leave the biscuits to cool on the side.
  9. With the Nutella, you can either use a spoon to transfer it into the centre of the biscuit or by using a piping bag which can be easier and can create less mess.
  10. With the Nutella in a piping bag, fill the thumbprints with Nutella before serving or storing in an airtight container.
