How to poach an egg

Cooking a poached egg can seem like a challenge, a task that you leave to the professionals. With this easy to follow recipe, you can make poached eggs in the comfort of your own home.

Ingredients

  • Fresh eggs
  • Drop of vinegar

Preparation method

  1. In a medium saucepan add your water and a drop of vinegar before placing onto a medium heat.
  2. While the water is warming up, stir the water to create a whirlpool.
  3. As the water is warming up, crack your fresh eggs into a bowl.
  4. Once a whirlpool has created and the water is hot and simmering with small bubbles rising in the water, spoon or gently tip the egg into the pan.
  5. Cook the egg for 3-4 minutes or until the white of the egg has set.
  6. Using a slotted spoon gently life the egg out of the saucepan and place onto kitchen paper to drain.
  7. If there are any straggly bits, be use you trim them off either with some scissors or with a knife.
