Homemade Shortbread

To celebrate National Shortbread Day, we have a deliciously easy shortbread recipe for you to try at home this New Year.

Homemade Shortbread
PREP TIME 30 minutes COOK TIME 10-30 minutes MAKES 20 biscuits
  • 125g of butter
  • 55g of caster sugar
  • 180g of plain flour

Preparation method

  1. Start by heating the oven to 190°C
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until the mixture has smoothed out.
  3. With the smooth mixture, slowly stir in the flour, until the mixture has turned into a texture resembling paste. Pour the mixture onto a work surface and roll until you have a sheet that is 1 cm thick.
  4. You then need to cut the mixture either into circles or into fingers and place onto a baking tray. Finish by sprinkling with caster sugar and leaving to chill in the fridge for 20 minutes before placing into the oven.
  5. When the time comes to cook the shortbread, place into the oven for 15-20 minutes or until they have turned a golden shade.
